Simple Dreams for Home Assistant

dizzydnallov/simple_dreams 122 By dizzydnallov

A calm, illustrated landscape behind translucent cards, in light and dark. Built for a wall tablet where the top of the screen does the work and the artwork sits below. Beta only, and quiet since October 2025.

Updated 2 September 2026

Simple Dreams puts a layered landscape illustration behind your dashboard and floats translucent cards over it, with a warm orange accent for anything switched on. The author's layout advice is worth following: keep your cards in the top two thirds of the screen and leave the lower third to the artwork. It is a fork of the older Waves theme, and it is designed for a tablet in landscape first, so phones get the picture but not much of it.

It sits below the top picks on maintenance. The project shipped two beta releases in October 2025 and nothing since, which predates the component changes in release 2026.5, so expect some toggles and switches to fall back to default colours on a current install. The background and weather icons also have to be copied into your www folder by hand, which HACS does not do for you. Install it for the look; run one of the top picks if you want something that tracks Home Assistant.

Variants

Dark

A night sky over a pine and lake scene, with warm orange accents. The one for a panel that runs after dark.

Light

The same scene at dawn in sand and sage tones, for bright rooms and daytime dashboards.

Frequently asked questions

Does Simple Dreams follow the light and dark mode toggle?

Yes. It is one theme with a dark and a light mode, so set your profile theme to Simple Dreams and it follows your device or the Auto setting.

Why is the background missing after install?

The artwork is not in the theme file. Copy the backgrounds and weather_icons folders from the repository into config/www/simple_dreams so the theme can reach them at /local/simple_dreams, then reload themes.
