Synced started with a house build. Our founder was building a new home and wanted it to be properly smart: lighting, security, climate, all of it easy enough that anyone in the family could actually use it.
Buying the gear turned out to be the hardest part. Working out what worked with what meant hours lost in forum threads, comparison spreadsheets and long conversations with ChatGPT about which products to buy. Half the products weren't made for Australian homes, and the other half assumed you already spoke fluent protocol.
So we built the store we couldn't find. Every product page tells you what it works with, what it needs, and what it won't do. Whether you're on Apple Home, Google Home, Home Assistant or nothing yet, you can see at a glance what fits your setup. And when something isn't right for Australian homes, we don't stock it.
The research is done before you get here. That's the whole thesis.
How we choose what to stock
Four criteria, applied to every product. Something has to clear all four to make it onto the site.
Criterion 01
Australian-spec, no exceptions.
240V where it matters, Wi-Fi behaviour that suits Australian routers, plug shapes that fit our sockets, firmware released for the AU region.
Criterion 02
Open standards first.
Matter, Thread, Zigbee, Apple Home. We carry cloud-only products only when they're the clear best in class, and we say so plainly on the page.
Criterion 03
Local support when it fails.
An Australian distributor or a local team we can pick up the phone to. If a brand handles warranty exclusively through international queues, we usually don't stock it.
Criterion 04
We'd put it in our own home.
Everything on the site has to earn a place in a real home first, starting with the founder's. If it isn't good enough to live with, it isn't good enough to sell.
