When do you need a neutral wire?
The light always needs a neutral. A plain wall switch never does. What sits between those two facts decides which smart switches you can buy, and what to do when there is no neutral at yours.
What is a dry contact?
A dry contact is a switch that carries no power of its own. It is how a mains-powered smart relay can open a garage door, and it is the spec that decides which Shelly module you need.
