Everything you need to know

The Dimmer Switch is the everyday wall control for a Hue room. Two dedicated buttons dim up and down, and the top and bottom buttons handle on, off and scenes. It sticks to the wall over your existing switch, sits on a magnetic surface, or comes off to use in the hand. It runs on a coin-cell battery, so there is nothing to wire in.

Works like an ordinary switch

Works like an ordinary switch

Two dedicated buttons dim up and down, and the top and bottom buttons handle on, off and scenes. Repeated presses cycle through your favourite scenes or shift the light to suit the time of day. What each button does is set in the Hue app, so a guest still uses the wall switch the way they expect.

The switch lifts off its back plate and works in the hand, so you can dim from the sofa or take it through to the bedside. The plate goes over your existing switch with adhesive or screws, and the switch holds back on magnetically when you return it. It runs on one CR2032 coin cell that lasts at least two years, so there is no rewiring and no electrician either way.

Reaches up to 50 lights

On its own over Bluetooth it handles up to 10 lights. Paired to the Hue Bridge it controls up to two Rooms, a Zone, or your entire setup, up to 50 lights, and works with Apple Home, Google Home, Amazon Alexa, SmartThings and Matter.

The Philips Hue system

Philips Hue logo

Hue is a system, not just a smart bulb. Every Hue product, from bulbs and lamps to light strips and fixtures, joins the same Zigbee mesh and shows up in one app. A single bulb bought today slots straight into a whole-home setup later.

Getting started
1
Start with one light Start here

Add your first Hue light, open the Hue app, and control up to 10 lights in one room over Bluetooth. No hub required.

2
Add the Hue Bridge When you're ready

Run up to 50 lights, control them from anywhere, set schedules and automations, and connect your voice assistant.

Start small, scale up. Everything you buy today keeps working when you add the Bridge, and everything Hue has made since 2012 still joins the same system.

It works over Bluetooth for up to 10 lights on its own. Pair it to a Hue Bridge for scenes, automations, time-of-day light and control of up to 50 lights. We recommend running it with a Bridge for the full switch.

One CR2032 coin cell, included in the box. It lasts at least two years and the switch is rated for around 50,000 presses.

Up to two Rooms, a Zone, or your whole Hue setup, up to 50 lights through the Bridge, or up to 10 lights over Bluetooth on its own.

No. It is wireless and battery-powered, so there is no rewiring. Stick the back plate over your existing switch with adhesive, or fix it with screws.

Buy the single for one room. If you are fitting switches through several rooms, the three-pack costs less per switch.
