Nordic for Home Assistant
The Nord colour palette on a Home Assistant dashboard: cool blue-grey grounds, soft pastel accents, and a light and a dark mode for each of its two variants. Suits anyone who already runs Nord in their editor or terminal.
Updated 2 September 2026
Nordic is a port of the Nord palette, the sixteen-colour scheme that started life as a code editor theme and has since turned up in most terminals and apps that offer a colour choice. Colton Dick's version ships two themes, nordic and nordic-blue, and each carries its own light and dark mode, so Home Assistant follows your device's setting without a second theme switch.
The palette is low contrast by design: blue-grey grounds, off-white text, and muted greens, blues, oranges and reds for state colours. On the standard tile and slider cards that keeps brightness bars and thermostat rings readable without the saturated colours the stock theme uses. The difference between the two themes is one variable, the accent, which sets the active slider, the selected tab and the toggle colour. Everything else is shared.
Every named Nord colour is exposed as a CSS variable (--aurora-red, --frost-green and so on), so cards that accept a colour, like Mini Graph Card or Mushroom, can pick from the same palette by name instead of a hex code. Install it through HACS and pick nordic or nordic-blue from your profile.
Variants
Dark
Nord's polar night greys with a frost green accent. The look most people mean when they say Nordic.
Light
The same palette on a snow-white ground, for wall tablets that stay on through the day.
Blue dark
The dark look with Nord's steel blue standing in for the green accent. Pick it if the green reads too minty against your cards.
Blue light
Steel blue accent on the light ground. The calmest of the four.
Frequently asked questions
Does Nordic follow my phone's dark mode?
Yes. Both nordic and nordic-blue define light and dark modes in one theme, so Home Assistant switches with the device setting or the Auto option in your profile.
What is the difference between Nordic and Nordic Blue?
Only the accent colour. Nordic uses frost green (#8fbcbb) for active controls; Nordic Blue uses steel blue (#5e81ac). Grounds, text and state colours are identical.
Can I use the Nord colours in my own cards?
Yes. The theme exposes every Nord colour as a CSS variable, for example var(--aurora-red) or var(--frost-green), wherever a card accepts a colour value.
