The Play light bar extension pack adds one more bar to an existing Play setup. It runs the same White and colour ambiance light, 2000K to 6500K plus full colour, but it does not include a power supply. It plugs into a spare port on a Play power supply you already have, which is why it needs the base single or double pack, not a first-time buy on its own.

This is a single bar meant to join Play bars you already run, not a first-time buy. At 500 lumens it matches the rest of the range. Use it to widen the light behind a large TV or to reach a second surface nearby.

Follows the picture
The light matches what's on screen in real time, so a green field or a sunset carries onto the wall behind the panel. To make it track the picture you need a Hue Bridge, plus either a Hue Play HDMI Sync Box or the Sync TV app on a supported TV. Without them it holds a fixed colour.

The extension pack has no power supply of its own. It plugs into a spare port on a Play supply you already own, and one supply runs up to three bars, so you need the base single or double pack and a free port to use it.

No. It has no power supply and plugs into a Play power supply from a single or double pack. You need the base Play bars and a spare port for it to work.
No. That is the difference from the single and double packs. It draws power from a Play supply you already own, which runs up to three bars in total.
One Play power supply runs up to three bars. If your supply already runs two, this extension fills the third slot; beyond that you need another supply.
For colour and on/off it works over Bluetooth like the other bars. Scenes, automations and screen sync need the Bridge, as with any Play bar.
