Everything you need to know

The Tap Dial Switch gives you four buttons plus a rotary dial in a single wireless controller. Each button can run a different Room, Zone or scene, and the dial dims a group up or down with a turn. Mount it on the wall as your main light switch, drop it on a magnetic surface, or carry it as a remote. It runs on a coin-cell battery with no wiring needed.

One controller for several rooms

One controller for several rooms

Each of the four buttons is set on its own, so one runs the living room, another the kitchen, another a movie scene, and the fourth turns everything off. Each button can control up to three Rooms or a Zone through the Bridge.

Turn to dim a group up or down

Turn to dim a group up or down

The rotary dial dims a group of lights up or down with a turn, and can be set to a different group again from the buttons. It is rated for around 12,000 dial turns and 50,000 button presses.

Wall plate, or off in the hand

The magnetic wall plate sticks on with adhesive or fixes with screws, and the switch lifts off to use as a remote. It runs on one CR2032 coin cell that lasts at least two years, so there is nothing to wire in.

The Philips Hue system

Philips Hue logo

Hue is a system, not just a smart bulb. Every Hue product, from bulbs and lamps to light strips and fixtures, joins the same Zigbee mesh and shows up in one app. A single bulb bought today slots straight into a whole-home setup later.

Getting started
1
Start with one light Start here

Add your first Hue light, open the Hue app, and control up to 10 lights in one room over Bluetooth. No hub required.

2
Add the Hue Bridge When you're ready

Run up to 50 lights, control them from anywhere, set schedules and automations, and connect your voice assistant.

Start small, scale up. Everything you buy today keeps working when you add the Bridge, and everything Hue has made since 2012 still joins the same system.

It works over Bluetooth for up to 10 lights on its own, but the Bridge is what unlocks per-button scenes, automations and control of up to 50 lights. For the full switch we recommend running it with a Bridge.

Each of the four buttons is set independently and can control up to three Rooms or a Zone. Assign a scene, a room, or an on and off toggle to each, then turn the dial to dim a group up or down.

One CR2032 coin cell, included. It lasts at least two years and is rated for around 50,000 presses and 12,000 dial turns.

Yes. The magnetic wall plate fixes with adhesive or screws, and the switch lifts off to use as a handheld remote or sit on any magnetic surface.

Yes. Hue accessories run on Zigbee and Bluetooth, not your Wi-Fi. The Bridge connects to your router by cable, and the switch keeps working during a Wi-Fi drop.
