How it works
The LED strip has no radio of its own. It lights up in colour and in warm to cool white, and the Gledopto Pro+ Mini is what connects it. The controller joins your Hue Bridge over Zigbee, so the strip shows up in the Hue app as a light you can put in your Kitchen room, dim, change colour and add to scenes and automations. It doesn't have to be this strip: any colour and white LED strip that runs on your power supply's voltage works with the controller.
The FCOB strip packs its LEDs so tightly that it reads as one smooth line, even reflected in a glossy benchtop. You cut it to the length of your cabinets and it sticks on with the tape already on the back.

The Hue Solo lightstrip is a complete Hue light: the strip, its controller and its power supply come in one box. It lights up in colour and in warm to cool white, and you add it in the Hue app like any other Hue light, put it in your Kitchen room and use it in scenes and automations. It connects over Bluetooth, or over Zigbee to a Hue Bridge alongside your other Hue lights. It doesn't have to be the Solo: any Philips Hue lightstrip works, so pick the one that fits the run.
The strip sits in a silicone sleeve 14 mm wide and 4.5 mm high, so it tucks in under the cabinets. You can cut it to length, but it can't be extended, so choose the roll that covers the whole run.

Step by step
-
Fit the strip under the cabinets
Measure the run and cut the strip at the marked copper pads, which come every 41.5 mm. Wipe the underside of the cabinet clean and dry, peel the backing and press the strip on. Use the clips in the box where the surface is rough.
-
Wire the controller
Cut the plug off the end of the extension lead that goes to the controller and strip 8 to 9 mm off each wire. The strip's wires go into V+, R, G, B, C and W, matching the labels on the strip: warm white goes to W, cool white to C. Connect the power supply's positive wire to V+ and its negative wire to V-: on the Pro+ Mini that's the black V- lever and the V+ beside it, and on the Pro Max its separate INPUT terminals. The striped wire on a power supply lead isn't always the positive, so check the label on the supply. Plug the power supply in last, and if the light on the controller stays off, unplug it and swap the two supply wires.

Check it's set for a colour and white strip
Switch the power on. The light on the controller shows white when it's set for a colour and white strip, which is how it comes. If it shows another colour, press OPT until it turns white.
-
Make a Kitchen room
In the Hue app, open the Home tab, tap the three dots, then Add devices. Tap Create new Room, choose Kitchen and tap Next. If you already have a Kitchen room, pick it instead.
-
Search for the controller
Tap Alternative method, then Set up without QR code, then Lights and smart plugs, and tap Next. The app searches for about a minute, then lists the controller as Extended color light 1. Tap Next.
-
Name it
Tap the light, type a name like Under cabinet lights, and choose the Hue lightstrip icon from the Other list. Tap Done, then Next, then Done.
-
Choose your scenes
The app then suggests scenes for the room. Tap one to try it, then tap Next. Later, in the Kitchen room, you can tap the light to set any white or colour you like and tap Save to keep it as a scene. A bright cool white for cooking and a dim warm white for the evening make a good pair.

Reset a strip that's been on a Bridge
A new strip is ready to pair. One that's been on a Hue Bridge before has to be factory reset first: removing it from the Bridge isn't enough. Switch it on, hold a Hue dimmer switch within 10 cm of it, and press and hold the on and off buttons together until it blinks, about 10 seconds. Newer Hue lights can also be reset over Bluetooth in the Hue app.
-
Pair it in Home Assistant

Frequently asked questions
Which should I choose: a Hue lightstrip or a Gledopto?
If you want it all from Philips Hue, with no wiring, choose the Hue Solo lightstrip: it plugs in and comes with its power supply. The Gledopto and FCOB strip cost less and give a line of light with no visible dots, but you wire the controller and buy a power supply. Pair the Gledopto with your Hue Bridge, or with Home Assistant if you run Zigbee there.
Can I use the strip above a cooktop or sink?
Keep it to dry spots. Neither strip is made for splashes (the Hue Solo is rated IP20), so under the cabinets is fine but not where water lands on it.
Do I need a Hue Bridge?
You need a Zigbee hub for the controller to connect to. A Hue Bridge is the simplest if you use the Hue app. A SmartThings hub, an Amazon Echo with Zigbee built in, or Home Assistant with Zigbee set up work too.
The Hue app can't find the controller. What do I do?
Switch the controller's power off and on again, then search again. If it still doesn't show up, reset it: hold the RESET button for 5 seconds until the strip flashes 3 times. A reset sets it back to a colour and white strip and clears any earlier pairing.
How long a run can one controller handle?
A 5 m roll, powered from one end, is well within what the Pro+ Mini handles. Past 5 m the far end starts to look dimmer, so for longer runs feed each strip from the controller separately or step up to the Pro Max.
Can I add a wall button?
Yes. Wire a push button that springs back when you let go to the controller's two PUSH terminals. Press it to switch the strip on or off, and hold it to dim. It works even when the hub isn't available. An ordinary on/off light switch won't work.
Will it work with Apple Home or Google Home?
Yes, through the Hue Bridge, which passes the strip on to Apple Home and Google Home. The controller doesn't support Matter on its own.
Does it need the internet?
No. The controller talks to the Hue Bridge over Zigbee inside your home, so the lights keep working if the internet goes down.
Do I need a Zigbee adapter?
Yes. Home Assistant talks to Zigbee devices through a coordinator plugged into the machine it runs on. If you already run Zigbee in Home Assistant, the adapter you have will do.
Can I use Zigbee2MQTT instead of ZHA?
Yes. The Pro+ Mini is supported in Zigbee2MQTT. Permit joining in Zigbee2MQTT, then reset the controller so it joins fresh, set for a colour and white strip.
What if I already paired it to a Hue Bridge?
Reset it first. A Zigbee device can only belong to one network, so it has to leave the Bridge before Home Assistant can add it. A reset also puts it back to colour and white mode, the one this strip needs.
Why go through the Hue Bridge?
The lightstrip stays in the Hue app with your other Hue lights and shows up in Home Assistant as well, with no Zigbee adapter to add.
Does the Solo lightstrip need a Hue Bridge?
No. The strip also connects to the Hue app over Bluetooth. A Hue Bridge pairs it over Zigbee, so it joins your other Hue lights.
Can I cut the Solo lightstrip?
Yes, to fit your cabinets. It can't be extended or joined to a second strip afterwards, so if your run is over 5 m, buy the 10 m roll and cut it down.
What do I give up without a Hue Bridge?
The Hue app. Paired straight to Home Assistant, the strip only runs from there, so Hue's own scenes aren't available. Home Assistant's scenes and automations take their place.
