SmartThings hub firmware 0.62.7: a direct line from app to hub
SmartThings hub firmware 0.62.7 was scheduled to roll out in phases from 8 to 16 September 2026. The headline is a direct link between the SmartThings app and your hub over your home network, though it and four other changes wait on an app update SmartThings has not named in its notes. Nothing was removed.
The headline: the SmartThings app can now talk directly to your hub over your home network, even when the hub is offline, but that feature waits on an app update the release notes do not name.
Nothing to check. Every setup is clear to update.
The headline feature: the app stops going through the cloud to reach your hub
The first line of the 0.62.7 notes says the SmartThings app can now communicate directly with SmartThings hubs when the app and the hub are on the same local network, even when the hub is offline. SmartThings does not explain in the notes what offline means here, and it does not spell out which controls this covers. The plain reading is that your phone can reach a hub on your own Wi-Fi without the request having to travel out to SmartThings and back.
There is a condition. SmartThings marks this item, and four others, as dependent on an upcoming SmartThings app version. It added the direct-communication line, already carrying that marker, in an edit on 6 September, two days after first posting the notes. The firmware alone does not switch the feature on, and the notes do not name the app version. Until it arrives, expect no visible change from this line.
The firmware installs itself. SmartThings scheduled the rollout for 8 to 16 September in phases, so your hub may not have updated on the first day. The hub reboots and goes offline briefly, and SmartThings says most people see less than a minute of downtime. The notes carry no region-specific text.
Seven smaller wins
The changes most people will notice day to day. Scan the tags for the areas you use.
The app catches up after a long outage
Device states now sync more accurately once a hub reconnects after an extended offline period, so the app shows the actual state of your devices. Earlier releases (0.60.12 and 0.61.6) improved Matter reconnection times; this is a separate fix.
Firmware for two SiHAS meters, applied for you
Updates for the SiHAS PMM-300Z2 and PMM-300Z3 power meters are included and apply automatically if the hub has automatic updates enabled.
Join a different Thread network
Hubs with Zigbee or Thread-based Matter devices can now join another Thread network. SmartThings warns that some Zigbee devices may need re-adding if the network is on a different channel. This one waits on the app update.
Offline Diagnostics can fix some rare Thread faults
Offline Diagnostics for Thread devices can now automatically recover from certain rare network conditions. This one waits on the app update.
Tag In and Out on the Hub 2 and ThingsOne
The Aeotec Smart Home Hub 2 and ThingsOne Smart Home Hub are newly in SmartThings Find and can detect Tag In and Tag Out events. This one waits on the app update.
Finer control from the IKEA BILRESA scroll wheel
New device preferences give more precise control when you adjust light brightness or colour temperature with the scroll wheel. Knob control of Zigbee and Hue lights arrived in 0.61.6.
Scroll wheels for blinds
Scroll wheels can now control Zigbee and Matter window coverings. This one waits on the app update.
Breaking changes
Nothing is removed or renamed in 0.62.7. Update whenever suits you.
Should you update?
Nothing to do here: the hub updates itself. Firmware 0.62.7 installs automatically in a phased rollout, the notes list no removals and no breaking changes, and there is nothing to reconfigure.
The caveat is that five of the eight items, including the direct app-to-hub link, wait on an app update the notes do not name, so the visible gains today are the smaller ones: better state sync after an outage, the power meter firmware and the IKEA scroll wheel settings. Joining a different Thread network is optional and only worth doing on purpose, and it comes with SmartThings' own warning that some Zigbee devices may need re-adding.

Frequently asked questions
Do I need to install 0.62.7 myself?
No. The firmware installs itself in a phased rollout scheduled for 8 to 16 September 2026, so your hub may not have updated on the first day. The hub reboots and goes offline briefly, and SmartThings says most people see under a minute of downtime.
Which hubs get 0.62.7?
The Samsung SmartThings Hub v2 and v3, the Aeotec Smart Home Hub, the Aeotec Smart Home Hub 2 and the ThingsOne Smart Home Hub.
Why can't I see the direct app-to-hub connection yet?
SmartThings marks it as depending on an upcoming SmartThings app version, so the firmware alone does not turn it on. The release notes do not name that app version.
Can I move my hub to a different Thread network?
The notes say hubs with Zigbee or Thread-based Matter devices can now join a different Thread network, once the upcoming app version arrives. SmartThings warns that some Zigbee devices may need to be re-added if the new network is on a different channel.
Does 0.62.7 break anything?
The release notes list no removals and no breaking changes. The only caution SmartThings gives is the Zigbee re-adding note that applies if you choose to move to a different Thread network.
