Best LED strip lights
Our pick of the best smart LED strip lights for kitchens, bedrooms and outdoors, with sizing, colour and installation tips.
The best LED strip lights turn a plain shelf or wall into a wash of colour. Below are our top picks, plus a quick guide to sizing, brightness and installation.
How to choose
Three things decide which strip is right for you: the length of the run, whether you want a single colour or a full gradient, and whether it needs to survive water or weather.
| Strip | Length | Colour | Outdoor |
|---|---|---|---|
| Lightstrip Plus | 2m, extendable | 16M colour | No |
| Gradient | 2m | Multi-zone colour | No |
| Lightstrip Outdoor | 2m to 5m | 16M colour | Yes IP67 |
| Neon Outdoor | 5m | White and colour | Yes IP67 |
Sizing and power
Strips draw more power the longer they get, so the driver matters as much as the strip itself. As a rule, plan for the run length plus a little spare.
- Measure the full run, including corners, before you order.
- Allow about 12 to 15 watts per metre when picking a driver.
- Keep the driver in a ventilated spot, not sealed inside a cabinet.
Installing your strip
- Plan the run
Measure the surface and mark where the strip starts and ends. Clean the surface so the adhesive holds.
- Dry fit first
Lay the strip in place without peeling the backing to check the length and the corners.
- Stick it down
Peel a short section at a time and press firmly. Use corner clips for tight bends.
- Power and pair
Connect the driver, then add the strip to your app or hub and test the colours.
Care and troubleshooting
Most issues come down to power or a bad cut. If a section stays dark, check the connector first. You can also browse our smart lighting range for replacements.
- If part of the strip is dark, reseat the connector at the nearest join.
- If colours look wrong, reset the strip and re-add it to your hub.
Frequently asked questions
Can I cut LED strip lights to length?
Most strips can be cut, but only on the marked cut lines, usually every 50mm to 100mm. Check the box before you trim, because some gradient strips cannot be cut at all.
Do LED strips work with Matter?
Some newer strips support Matter through a hub. Older Hue strips work through the Hue Bridge and connect to Matter from there, so you still get app and voice control.
How long do LED strip lights last?
A quality strip lasts around 25,000 hours, which is years of normal use. Cheaper strips fade faster, especially on the blue channel.
