Everything Apple announced for the home in October 2026

Apple announced HomeView, a 7 inch home display that also works as an Apple Home hub, alongside a new HomePod mini and Apple TV 4K. HomeView costs $449.00 in Australia and arrives on 13 November. Apple has not announced its new Home Collection of locks, cameras and thermostats for Australia.

A 7 inch touchscreen on a hinge that tilts over a domed base, running Apple's A18 chip, with a 12 MP Center Stage camera for FaceTime, four microphones and speakers in both the base and the display. It comes in Silver, Starlight, Rose Pink and Space Grey, and the box includes a 1.5 m USB-C cable and a 30 W power adapter. It runs on mains power only, so it lives where there is a powerpoint.

HomeView is also an Apple Home hub. Apple lists it alongside HomePod and Apple TV as a device that runs your automations and handles remote access, and it has Thread networking for Thread accessories. The screen shows the Home app with your scenes and several camera feeds at once. It also has temperature and humidity sensors, and it listens for smoke and carbon monoxide alarms and sends an alert to your iPhone, iPad or Apple Watch.

HomeView recognises up to six people by face and voice and shows each of them their own content. Setting it up needs an iPhone on iOS 27.2 or later, or an iPad on iPadOS 27.2 or later.

Siri AI, the new version of Siri built on Apple Intelligence, is in beta on HomeView and works in English in Australia. Some of its server-side features have daily usage limits.

Apple HomeView (Wall Mounted)

$449.00, mount sold separately Pre-order now, available from 13 November

The same screen and chip as the tabletop HomeView, in a flat body under a centimetre deep that sits on the wall. It comes in Silver and Space Grey. It has two speaker drivers where the tabletop model adds a woofer and passive radiators, so the tabletop is the one to buy for music.

The box contains only the display. It mounts on a Schneider Home Power Mount, which you buy separately:

  • USB-C Wall Connector, from $94.95, on order now. It needs a USB-C cable and a power adapter of at least 20 W, also sold separately.
  • AC Wired, from $124.95, on order now. This one connects to mains wiring in the wall, which in Australia is a job for a licensed electrician.
  • PoE Wired, $199.95, early 2027.

Budget for the mount when you compare prices. The wall-mounted HomeView costs at least $543.95 with the cheapest mount, before the cable, power adapter and installation.

A range of accessories made by LG and Schneider and sold by Apple: cameras, a video doorbell, a deadbolt, thermostats and sensors. Every one uses Thread, and the lock, thermostats and sensors work with Matter.

Apple is launching the range from December, with some products in early 2027. The deadbolt, thermostats and sensors are for the US and Canada, and the doorbell and cameras also go to the UK. Apple has not announced an Australian release. Australian homes can already use Matter locks, sensors and cameras from other brands with Apple Home.

Our take

Worth waiting for

If you run Apple Home and want a screen in the kitchen, HomeView is worth waiting the four weeks for. It is a hub as well as a display, so it can take over from an Apple TV HD or first-generation Apple TV 4K that tvOS 27 left behind. The tabletop model is the simpler buy. The wall-mounted one costs the same before you add a mount.

If you only need a hub, HomePod mini 2 at $229.00 does the job for half the price, and it is out two weeks sooner. Apple has not brought the Home Collection here, so the Matter and Thread accessories already sold in Australia remain the way to fill out an Apple Home setup.
